30th September 2011 – As part of Cardiff Design Festival 2011, Design circle have compiled an exhibition from over 25 architectural practices that have been short listed or presented with an RIBA Award for their buildings in Wales between 2008 and 2011. 'Building Wales' features two projects by DRU-w, Margam Discovery Centre and the Environmental Resource Centre, Ebbw Vale.

28th September 2011 – 'Altered Landscapes: Design Research Unit Wales' opens at the Architecture Centre, Bristol. The exhibition presents recent projects including Margam Discovery Centre, Environmental Resource Centre in Ebbw Vale, and Annedd, an integrated elderly care home in rural Carmarthenshire. The projects are illustrated by photographs, sketches, drawings and models demonstrating how research and sustainability are embedded into the way the practice works. The exhibition runs until 6th November. more info

13th September 2011 – A visiting group of Chinese architects tour the Margam Discovery Centre as part of a three week summer school at the WSA.

30th July 2011 – The Environmental Resource Centre in Ebbw Vale wins the National Eisteddfod Plaque of Merit. The building was praised for "its ethos of cultural as well as environmental sustainability."

6th July 2011 – DRU-w present two papers at the international' Economy' conference at the Welsh School of Architecture. Wayne presented 'The New Usonian House' while Matthew presented 'Incremental Urbanism: An Economic Approach to the Small Town'.

7th April 2011 – The Environmental Resource Centre in Ebbw Vale is shortlisted for an RIBA Regional Award.

31st March 2011 – The Sustainable Building Envelope Centre (SBEC) is officially opened. The project for TATA Steel and LCRI is a research base for the development of energy producing facade products.

30th March 2011 – DRU-w and Richard Weston host an exhibition to accompany Richard's public lecture, 'Transformations: minerals, digital manufacturing and architecture' at the WSA, held as part of the university's 'Big Idea:Science on Show' programme.

March 2011 – St Athan Housing by DRU-w and Powell Dobson Architects is awarded a Pilot Exemplar Programme Award by Constructing Excellence Wales.

8-11 March 2011 – DRU-w are excited to announce 'Preview', a pop-up exhibition in a disused shop in the Royal Arcade, Cardiff, running from 8th-11th March. The Victorian shop will be transformed with large scale drawings, models, and photographs. The exhibition will explore ideas of place, material innovation, territory and building simply through recent and ongoing projects. These include the RIBA Award winning Margam Discovery Centre, the Environmental Resource Centre in Ebbw Vale and the Sustainable Building Envelope Centre in Shotton.

16th November 2010 – DRU-w present ongoing work on the design of Low to Zero Carbon Buildings at the Low Carbon Research Institute annual conference.

5th November 2010 – DRU-w commended by the YAYA 2010 jury for a unique presentation:

"Design Research Unit Wales – the youngest team on the shortlist – gave the most original presentation, revealing drawings, models and other ephemera from an elaborate “crate of curiosities". 19th May 2010 – Margam Discovery Centre wins an RIBA Award. One of severn regional awards won by Wales this year, the project is the only winner with Welsh based architects.

May 2010 – Ty Unnos Welsh Passive House at The Works, Ebbw Vale, starts on site. The house will act as a visitor centre for the Eisteddfod Festival before being converted into a two bed four person house.

April 2010 – The Rebranding Ruthin Vertical Studio of 9 first and second year students from the WSA has started a three week project in the North Wales town. Students will be based in the town for three days before returning to Cardiff to examine key urban spaces identifed during the visit. The outcome of the studio will be exhibited in Ruthin Craft Centre at the end of May and will form part of a community-led masterplanning project.

March 2010 – The Reflecting Wales 09.09 exhibition opens at Ruthin Craft Centre, featuring work by Steve Coombs, Rihan Thomas and Matthew Jones.

January 2010 – DRU-w, WSA and Charter Housing Association's bid for TSB Retrofit For The Future successful. The team will carry out a carbon reducing retrofit on a 1980's end of terrace house in Newport. The energy performance will be monitored for two years after completion.

12th November 2009 – Margam Discovery Centre wins Consortium of Local Authorities in Wales Building Of The Year Award and is commended in the Sustainabilty category.
